The Star Gold Coast Conrad Jupiters Casino, Broadbeach Island, Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Queensland QLD 4218 Australia +61 7 5592 8443 Website Closed now: See all hours All photos (175). This Vietnamese restaurant has been around for so long that you might have forgotten all about it (since 1996, which makes it about 100 years old in restaurant years). But Le Colonial recently moved, and like your brother who refuses to leave Beverly, it’s still in the Gold Coast. The Star Gold Coast’s own Italian restaurant Cucina Vivo has ticked off two milestones this month with the famed wood fired pizza oven churning out its 25,000th pizza coinciding with the venue’s first birthday. While the Prosciutto e Arugula is the most popular pizza, the Nutella pizza has also made a real impact.

Italian. Ask anyone what their favourite cuisine is and, nine times out of 10, it'll be Italian. Pizza, pasta and antipasti—what's not to love? But not all Italian joints are created equal, so we've done the hard yards (and carbs!), to bring you our pick of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast.

Orzo

Gold

Broadbeach

Sister restaurant to another fabulous Broadbeach eatery Social Eating House + Bar, Orzo is the modern Italian restaurant of your foodie dreams. Expect handmade pasta, incredible desserts and Italian-inspired cocktails worth returning for. Simple, fresh and local is the mantra here. Orzo’s concise yet impressive Italian-inspired menu includes a playful smattering of Asian (like miso) and native Australian ingredients (like bush tomato and lemon myrtle) to make it truly distinctive. A current and sophisticated addition to the bustling Oracle Boulevard dining precinct, Orzo has long leisurely lunch or romantic date night written all over it.

Balboa Italian

Palm Beach

One of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast, and a firm favourite of ours, is Palm Beach’s Balboa Italian. Like a glistening beacon of beauty on the Gold Coast Highway, this treasured neighbourhood haunt is serving the locals fine Italian fare with a contemporary twist, all in the most magnificent of settings. With towering ceilings, a grand chandelier and the perfect amount of rustic charm, Balboa’s decor is all kinds of Insta-worthy. Come prepared to devour plate after plate of antipasti, woodfired pizza, handmade pasta and risotto. Almost a year on from opening and this beauty still books out on the reg. So, if you arrive early, plonk yourself down at the sexy bar and sink an espresso martini to get yourself started.

Goccia Italian Pizzeria

Mermaid Beach

For top-notch pizza, pasta and share plates that won’t break the bank, it’s obvious why locals have fallen head over heels for Goccia. Cosy up inside close to the wood-fired pizza oven or dine alfresco under the festoon lights, Goccia (pronounced ‘gotcha’) is like a warm hug from family, made all the more authentic by the Italian accents taking your order with a smile. In all seriousness though, we’re going to be bold and claim Goccia are serving up some of the absolute best pizzas on the Gold Coast.

Trio Romano

Mermaid Beach

Opening in the 80s this Mermaid Beach eatery is a total institution for locals. While the outside looks unassuming, inside the laid back restaurant, which seats around 30, is churning out melt-in-your-mouth pizza and incredible pasta, transporting diners to Northern Italy with just one bite. And did we mention it's BYO? If you can’t score a table at Trio Romano—it’s often full before 7pm—then grab a takeaway, we can attest it’s just as delicious on the couch.

Gemelli Italian

Broadbeach

A packed dining room seven nights, plus lunch Thursday to Sunday, is a testament to the young Carney brothers who introduced some of the most authentic Italian fare to the Gold Coast. Gemelli, translating to ‘twin’ in the mother tongue, is the original trattoria in this hospitality empire and is somewhat of an institution among pizza and pasta lovers. The brothers were making pasta sauce before most of us had learnt to read and write, and it’s their traditional recipes, passed through the generations, which are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike at their Broadbeach restaurant. Come for the woodfired pizzas, melted gnocchi bowls and those drool-worthy Nutella Bomba desserts.

Cucina Vivo

Broadbeach

Step past the open plan kitchen and crackling woodfired pizza oven and you’ll be transported to a little slice of the Amalfi Coast right here in Broadbeach. We love Cucina Vivo’s retro ‘60s colour palette of dusty pink and seafoam blue, decorated with oversized pendant lights, plantation-style shutters and a chic white terrace overlooking The Star’s sparkling resort pool. Work your way through a menu of antipasti, woodfired pizzas, handmade pastas and Alla Grigila mains (from the charcoal grill). Our tip? You must not leave without trying Cucina Vivo’s legendary Cioccolato Rosso Ferrari.

Gemellini

Nobby Beach

Baby brother to Broadbeach’s much-loved Gemelli Italian, you may be tempted to dine at Gemellini for the eye candy alone. Or not, we don’t mind. A refined addition to Nobby’s hipster scene and one of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast, Gemellini is dishing up authentic woodfired pizzas and homemade pastas with recipes inherited from nonna. What ever you do, don’t leave without trying The Carne pizza with pomodoro base, salsicce (a house-made fennel pork sausage), ham and salami. Delish!

Ristorante Fellini

Main Beach

Another veteran among the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast, Ristorante Fellini has been operating, very successfully, for a staggering 21 years, so know you’re onto a winner. Located overlooking the water at stunning Marina Mirage, family-run Fellini has every element of Italian cuisine absolutely perfected. From meticulously crafted pasta and stuffed zucchini flowers to fresh-off-the-boat seafood, traditional desserts and an extensive wine list. With a team of heavyweight restaurateurs, chefs and sommeliers, Fellini is one of the city’s most respected institutions and will no doubt be sticking around for another few decades yet. Date night, anyone?

Roy's By Gemelli

Sorrento

When Italian fare is this good, it’s worth hunting down. Which is exactly what you’ll need to do if you wanna try Roy's By Gemelli—one of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast. With two thriving restaurants already under their belt, brothers Alec, James and Paul aspired to create a social meeting place for the neighbourhood of Sorrento, where residents could wine and dine without needing to drive or book a babysitter. With a menu bursting with Gemelli classics and authentic recipes from the motherland, for the rest of us, a drive into the backwaters of Broadbeach is definitely worth it to sample one of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast. Oh, and did we mention it’s BYO?

Francie’s

Coolangatta

Quickly earning itself a cult following in Coolangatta, we reckon Francie’s pizzeria is one of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast if you find yourself wandering around the southern end with a hunger you need to crush. With cool vibes, a laidback local clientele, hip staff and wood-fired neo-Neapolitan-style pizzas featuring cheeky names like Pears Brosnan and Cheese Louise (not to mention an entire vegan pizza menu!), Francie’s is unassuming but a total fan favourite.

Double Zero

Broadbeach

Double Zero take a very traditional approach to their craft, creating pizza exactly as they are made at their birthplace in Naples, Italy; which of course means an authentic woodfired oven, traditional cheeses and true, Italian flavours. So it’s no surprise they’re certified by Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana as one of Australia’s most authentic Italian pizzerias. An impressive feat indeed and good reason to hop in and try Double Zero’s genuine Napoletana creations for yourself or, better yet, book in for a pizza making master class and learn the true art form direct from the professionals. Belissimo!

Justin Lane

Burleigh Heads

The king of Italian food in Burleigh, Justin Lane has been providing a warm welcome to those seeking a charismatic dining experience since 2011. Hands down a local institution and one of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast, there's a constant thrum to this fantastic spot. Get in early to nab a seat on the open-air terrace for a few Negronis in the late afternoon sunshine, before moving inside to a swanky leather banquette in the upstairs dining room or an intimate table for two in the festoon-lit arcade laneway. Our pick for dinner? The prawn, calamari and garlic woodfired pizza on sourdough never disappoints.

Mario’s

Broadbeach

You know if your Italian dinner destination is called Mario’s, you’re in good hands. With a staggering 20-plus pizzas to tempt you, from the simple Capricciosa to the Zingara with garlic prawns, spinach and camembert, it’s inevitable you’ll be rolling outta here. Undergoing a mega transformation in early 2017, after 18 years on the scene and a big favourite with both locals and tourists, it would be a crime to leave Mario’s off a list of the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast.

Jupiters

Italian Restaurant Jupiter's Casino Gold Coastt Australia

Salt Meats Cheese

Italian Restaurant Jupiter's Casino Gold Coast Plaza

Surfers Paradise

Salt Meats Cheese in Surfers Paradise is a hot contender among the best Italian restaurants on the Gold Coast. This vibrant, casual bistro serves up classic, tasty Italian cuisine with some special twists thrown in for good measure—spaghetti served from a wheel of cheese, anyone? Start your meal off with a loaded platter of imported cheese and cured meats then move onto their range of delicious pastas. On a budget? Salt Meats Cheese’s weekly $10 lunch special gets you a personal woodfired pizza with a glass of vino or beer for just five bucks more or, go for $25 all-you-can-eat pizza on Mondays. We call bargain.

How do you make a weekend to the beach even more relaxing than it already is? One way to do it is to evoke the idea of another beach at the same time. This may sound like coastal overload, but oddly it works.
A coast to coast experience is exactly what you get at Cucina Vivo, a brand new restaurant on the Gold Coast that recreates the experience of Italy’s Amalfi Coast. The result is that all you can think about are long walks on the beach followed by even more long walks on the beach.
But can Cucina Vivo’s food carry you over to Italian shores? Let’s find out.

Italian Restaurant Jupiter's Casino Gold Coast Fl

Cucina Vivo is located at Jupiter’s Casino which is currently undergoing more of an extreme makeover than a reality TV show. The restaurant is the first outdoor dining venue here, overlooking the newly revamped pool.
Nothing says Italian seaside like a soft blue and peach colour scheme and designer furnishings. And nothing says Italy itself like a two metre long wood-fired pizza oven, which takes pride of place in the middle of the restaurant.
Cucina Vivo has very thoughtfully crafted a space that transforms you to the Southern Italian shores, which is no mean feat when you're actually on the southern shore of Broadbeach.
Cucina Vivo's drinks menu offers a pretty good start to a taste of Italy. Each cocktail option had a bit of Summer about it, and the wine list did well in offering a mix of Italian and Australian drops.
Below we had:
  • Cinquanta-Cinquanta: Aperol, Campari, Fresh Peach Puree
  • One More Thyme: Tanquaray Gin, Green Chartreuse, Lavender and Thyme Sugar Syrup
  • 2013 Renato Corino Barbera

Each of the cocktails were subtle, and very thoughtfully blended. There was only a hint of peach puree to lift the Cinquanta-Cinquanta, rather than the drink being unnecessarily blasted with fruit.
The lavender and thyme sugar syrup in the One More Thyme added a nice savoury taste, and made you instantly think of being in a European garden.
The 2013 Renato Corino Barbera was earthy and slightly funky tasting. Barbera is best drunk young, and this was opening up really well for us.
We also had a glass each of the 2010 Renato Corino Barolo, which to be honest, blew the Barbera out of the water. It was rich, complex and drinking beautifully even at such a young age.
Seeing as this was an Italian restaurant, we couldn’t go past the pasta menu which had some truly mouth-watering options. We opted for:
  • Gnocchi Trifolati: Sauteed Mushrooms, Truffle Oil and Marjoram
  • Tortelloni Ripieni: Crab Meat, Ricotta and Lemon Zest on Green Pea Puree

Three words: Best. Gnocchi. Ever. A forkful of this gnocchi was one you closed your eyes over. It was soft and fluffy on the inside and pan seared crisp on the outside. Each little dumpling soaked up the rich mushrooms and truffle oil brilliantly.
I absolutely loved, loved, loved the tortelloni as well. It was packed full of crab meat which was slightly sweet and fantastic quality. The fresh peas and pea puree was also such a nice change from the usual tomato-based sauces. This was truly a seaside Spring on a plate.
We then decided for some surf and turf options from the mains menu:
  • Pesce Del giorno (Fish of the Day): Snapper with Prawns, Corn Basil Salad, Fennel and Pumpkin Puree
  • Cape Grim Rib Eye (300g): with Potatoes, Capers and Lamb Lettuce Salad
  • Argula E Pere: Balsamic Roasted Pears, Argula, Provolone, Semi-Dried Tomatoes, Vinaigrette

The generous amounts of snapper served up were so fresh they can’t have been long out of the sea. I loved all the sweetness of the prawns, corn and pumpkin puree it was served with. This fresh dish was creative and beautifully blended together.
The Cape Grim Rib Eye was absolutely top quality. If you like a good bit of steak- go here. The potatoes were mashed with some capers added in, which gave it a salty hint of the ocean. We are in a double-coastal restaurant after all.
Lastly if you’re going to order a salad, make sure this is it. The balsamic roasted pears were soft and rich and went so well with the salty provolone cheese. This cheese was so moreish I could have eaten a whole block of it.
Finally we came to dessert:
  • Cioccolato Rosso Ferari: Pistacio Crostata, Stracciatella Ice Cream, Ferrari Red Chocolate Sphere, Grappa Infused Chocolate Sauce
  • Flavours of Italy: An Assorted Variety of Small, Delicious Desserts – Two Gelati, Tiramisu, Zuppa Inglese and Panna Cotta

The Zuppa Inglese is a chocolate and Vanilla cremeux, vanilla sponge, fresh fruit, nitrogen poached meringue
. It tastes as amazing as it sounds.

The Cioccolato Rosso Ferari was Italian flair on a plate. It came out with puffs of smoke wafting from the Stromboli-like chocolate creation, which was quenched with a steady stream pour of chocolate sauce.
I expected it to taste as rich and decadent as it looked, but instead of hitting you with a sugar punch, it was really well balanced. The thin chocolate shell was almost dainty and while the grappa chocolate sauce was rich, it was perfect to cut through the creamy ice cream.
Italian Restaurant Jupiters Casino Gold Coast
The little tasting plate is a fabulous idea for getting your Italian dessert fix when you already have a belly full of pasta.
The stand-out was the Zuppa Inglese which had a bit of everything going in such a small glass. The nitrogen poached meringue was crisp and set off the creamy flavours well.
